Description
-
Elastic material:Our snubber line is made from nylon rope, which stretches significantly when under load, absorbing the shock.
-
Attaching to the chain:We use Mantus chain hooks to connect the snubber line to the anchor chain. Mantus Marine is well known for it's quality products and craftsmanship.
-
Secure point on the boat:The other end of the snubber is secured to a strong point on the boat's bow, like a cleat or bitt, with an 18" soft loop.
-
How it works:When the boat experiences sudden movement, the snubber stretches, absorbing the force and preventing excessive strain on the anchor chain and windlass.
- Reduces stress on the windlass: By absorbing shock loads, the snubber takes pressure off the windlass, which can extend its lifespan.
- Improves comfort onboard: Lessens the jolting sensation felt inside the boat when the chain goes taut.
- Protects deck hardware: Reduces strain on the bow roller and other deck fittings.
- Proper length: The snubber should be the right length for your boat and anchoring conditions.
- Material selection: Use a high quality nylon rope with appropriate breaking strength.
- Deployment: Properly attach the snubber to the chain and secure it to the boat before anchoring.
A snubber works in conjunction with the chain catenary to absorb energy, and in high winds, it reduces or eliminates the jolting associated with a taut chain. Our snubbers are made with 3-strand nylon rope because of its elasticity, strength and resistance to rot.

Single Leg Snubber
The Mantus M2 Hook is rock solid and top of the line, and obviously can't slip off. I normally don't need a snubber because I anchor with 75' of chain attached to 300' of 5/8" 8-plait. However, sometimes in a really shallow anchorage where the boats are too tight to allow a 5 or greater scope, need a snubber. Had been looking for one similar to what Dark Marine made. Check out the snubber options at West Marine without the hool, and you will see what a great value Dark Marine has done, and the quality of their work is the best I have seen (sailing cruiser with over 20 years experience)
